Scott lost his mother at a young age. Afterward, both he and his brother turned to music. While Scott devoted himself to the violin, his brother became interested in deejaying, a former hobby of their professor father as well. Known as DJ Protégé, his brother is a renowned and respected DJ known for being a master of house, dance, trance, and techno music. It was DJ Protégé who gave Scott the opportunity for his first public performance, a Valentine’s Day event at Tribe Hotel. The two have continued to collaborate frequently, though Scott also regularly works with other DJs.
Today, Scott regularly performs at weddings and corporate events as well as playing sets and recording with DJs and bands. He has played for events by Heineken and Nescafe, among others. In 2016, he played at the Forbes’ Person of the Year gala. He even played for the Kenyan president’s son’s ruracio. Scott performed at Africa’s most popular singing competition, the Tusker All-Stars Competition. Rumor has it, Nairobi’s young musical sensation violinist may soon be performing for Coke Studio. Scott’s talents can also be seen in a number of popular songs, like Nerea by Sauti Sol, ft. Amos and Josh.
Although he has been steadily devoted to his instrument from a young age, Scott chose to study Public Relations at the University of Nairobi. No doubt this PR expertise comes in handy as he seeks to expand his brand as a musician. Unsurprisingly, Scott also leverages his various social media accounts to gain more fans and spread his passion for the violin. One thing he regularly shares on social media are brief covers of pop songs, like the current hit Despacito. There is an eager worldwide audience that is very receptive to his unique musical style.
Being one of very few violinists in Kenya, Scott says, “I get overwhelmed by the demand for my music and the work I have to do.” His drive and passion make it all worth it, though. Even though he is so busy, he also takes the time to teach children how to play the instrument that means so much to him. What’s next for this young superstar? Scott says he hopes to tour the world and win a Grammy one day.
