“Oh, what a night!”
The 89th Academy Awards ceremony honored the best films and actors of 2016 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, California on Sunday evening, February 26, 2017. Host Jimmy Kimmel kept the pace going for the long exciting evening, where glitz and glamour prevailed. Hollywood’s finest didn’t disappoint, as gorgeous stars in gorgeous gowns posed along the famous red carpet. The looks were inspiring and will help set the trends for the new year in fashion, makeup and hair.
Ruth Negga (Loving) glided on to the carpet in a stunning red custom-made Valentino gown. The long-sleeve, high-neck with lacy bodice dress was dreamy. “I feel like I’m floating,” Ms Negga told E!’s Ryan Seacrest. Ms Negga wore her dark hair off her face with a pretty jeweled headband and dangling earrings. Her makeup featured scarlet lips and a soft smoky eye. Best Supporting Actress Winner Viola Davis never disappoints and wowed in a crimson Armani Privé with a halter neckline and draped capelet. Her hair was short and sassy and strong cat eye was alluring.
Octavia Spencer (Hidden Figures) walked the red carpet in a Marchesa gown that dazzled in silver. The off the shoulder gown featured delicate pretty feathers below the waist. Her hair was styled in a sleek bob. Award winner and new father of a baby girl, Mahershala Ali turned heads in a black on black tux. Oscar royalty Denzel Washington (Fences) and wife Paulette sparkled. She wore a long sleeve off the shoulder gown and high bun. Denzel’s sharp-looking tux featured a long tie, rather than a bow tie. Runway trends showed off long sleeved one shoulder gowns and luxurious fabrics like velvet. Presenter Taraji P. Henson went Old Hollywood in a purple velvet off the shoulder number by Alberta Ferretti and chic, tousled bob.
When it comes to awards show makeup and hair, most gorgeous stars have a fab team to enhance their beauty. Naomi Harris (Moonlight) gave us all a pre-Academy Awards peek on her Instagram. Presenter Halle Berry looked sexy in blush pink Atelier Versace. Her big curls brought an edgy vibe, as she told Vogue.com, “The dress is glamorous with a sense of romance that made me feel feminine and fresh. With this look, I celebrate my natural hair by allowing it to be wild and free.”
Some stars like Ms. Negga wore blue ribbons affixed to their ensembles. The ribbons are a sign of solidarity with the ACLU, the American Civil Liberties Union.
