The West African metropolis of Lagos, Nigeria is the center of one of the largest urban areas in the world. It was right there at the city’s famous National Arts Theater that African Fashion Week Nigeria (AFWN) kicked off in an explosion of bold colors, striking African prints, stunning jewelry and pure elegance. AFWN was a two-day affair this year and featured five exciting runway shows with multiple collections designed by Nigeria’s most talented individuals just hitting their stride and becoming globally famous.
One of these favorites came from the incredible vision of designer Marobuk. His line of women’s and men’s fashion appeared on day one of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria. The audience went wild seeing the models take to the runway in fabrics kissed by lace, satin, flounces, and memorable details that define Marobuk’s signature style of uber sophistication and feminine pieces for women. AFWN was established by Ronke Ademiluyi, and 2017’s fab event became the organization’s 4th edition of the annual fashion week. The 2-day fashion extravaganza has grown immensely and this season showcased 56 designers and 40 exhibitors.
The Continent is very proud of its unique style, culture and roots, and people like Ronke Ademiluyi have provided a special platform for rising stars to not only create gorgeous clothing and accessories but spur new employment and sustainability. Some of the other designers showing off their style were Modella, Maufechi, Sally Bawa, Blingshiki, Tash by Tasha, Alex Akande (Cameroon), Kola Kuddus, Zizi Cardow, Regalia by FAL and Linda Ngwi (Cameroon).
GoldmyneTV captured some of the hottest collections and hottest models walking the runway. Talk about elegance and polish—these designers were chosen for a reason. Their talent is huge and destined for world recognition. A “face” of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria is chosen every year, and 2017’s winner was Amira Ibrahim Alfa. She’s a gorgeous, young African woman who has stolen the spotlight wherever her travels take her. She’s becoming a popular TV host at red carpet events, and according to Ronke Ademiluyi, Amira has that something special, and she’s not afraid to own it.
The beauty enjoys modern fashion and perfectly represents her peers: “I am very adventurous. I don’t have one particular style because I love trying new things and exploring new clothing ideas and trends,” Amira said.
