Forbes Magazine is known for its top-end content, extravagant financial advice, and of course naming the richest people in the world. This year, Bill Gates graces the cover once again as the mogul of money, ranking first with 86 billion dollars. Gates continues to make history as he maintains one of the world’s most prestigious titles. For those counting, this is the fourth time Gates has won the title of “Richest Man on the Planet,” making him a familiar name among all Americans. Gates is known for founding Microsoft, one of the leading computer companies in the world. However, that’s not all Gates is known for, as he and his wife have also been involved extensively in philanthropy through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Second on the Forbes list this year is Warren Buffett coming in at a respectable 75.6 billion dollars. Trump on the other hand, who brags that his business is doing “very very well” and has yet to release his tax returns, slipped down more than 200 spots.Trump was listed as number 544 to be exact, reporting in at a measly $3.5 billion. That’s $1 billion less than last year due to his poor showings in real estate. Forbes states, “Forty percent of Donald Trump’s fortune is tied up in Trump Tower and eight buildings within one mile of it.” This investment was directly impacted by the weak real estate market in Manhattan.
While Trump may consider the bump meaningless, it certainly gives us a bit of perspective when it comes to those who are at the top of the list. In particular, it’s clear how those who are most successful give back to the community in ways of philanthropy, charity, and selfless acts.
