At a time when the world is in desperate need of any positive news, Britain’s royal family has some to offer. Kensington Palace announced this week that Duchess Kate is pregnant once again. Kate and William are already parents to four-year-old Prince George and two-year-old Princess Charlotte.
According to CNN, Kate is not yet at the 12-week point in her pregnancy. The early announcement was necessitated because the Duchess needed to cancel some upcoming appearances. This is because she suffers from hyperemesis gravidarum, a condition that makes her pregnancies quite difficult. She needed to be hospitalized because of the condition when pregnant with Prince George.
Young Prince George doesn’t have time to think about his new brother or sister, as he’ll be starting school this week at a posh private school in South London.
The new little one will be the sixth great-grandchild for Queen Elizabeth. The BBC reports that the Queen is “delighted” about the news. Whether the baby is a boy or a girl, the child’s uncle, Prince Harry, will be bumped down to sixth in the line of succession. The law about the line of succession was changed in 2013, removing the male preference. This made Princess Charlotte fourth in the line, behind Prince George. For his part, Prince Harry called the news “fantastic” and said that he was “very, very happy.”
Speaking of Prince Harry, there has not yet been any official news about an engagement. He took girlfriend Meghan Markle on a romantic African safari vacation last month, sparking rumors about a potential proposal in the works. Africa was where Prince William asked for Kate Middleton’s hand in 2010. In addition to being a destination for romance, both brothers have been committed to helping conservationists in Africa. They have been involved with work to protect endangered animals like black rhinos and elephants. Prince Harry was in Malawi in June to help with an elephant relocation project.
Best wishes to the royal family for a safe and healthy pregnancy. The world awaits the adorable family photos.
