Wema Sepetu made her debut as a beauty pageant contestant back in 2006, winning Miss Tanzania and representing her country in the Miss World pageant later that year. After gracing our televisions with her beauty, it wasn’t long before Sepetu made her way to the big screen, securing her fame in the Tanzanian film industry.
Born in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Sepetu was raised in a diplomatic family. She had a relatively normal childhood and studied abroad at Limkokwing University where she earned a degree in International Business.
In recent news, Sepetu has been making strides to launch her own personal mobile app. In late May, Sepetu met with many of her supporters such as the Minister of Information, Youth, Culture and Sports as well as many others to launch her new technological innovation, stating, “this application will help provide reliable stories, videos, tutorials and tips, and will also enable users to follow her whereabouts, ask her questions and sign up for events and giveaways.”
As with any celebrity, keeping up with Wema Sepetu’s love life can be a full time job. After formally denouncing her reunion with musician Diamond, Sepetu told her fans that her recent support for his music at the BET Awards was simply that, support.
While Sepetu and Diamond have a long history together, as it stands, Wema is content being single and enjoying her freedom. After recently parting ways with her previous boyfriend, Idris Sultan, Sepetu has spent the last four months focusing on her career and, of course, launching her new mobile app.
Being Miss Tanzania is not cheap, and Sepetu has come under fire once again for her lavish habits, reported to have spent a whopping Tsh 4.8Million on hair weaves alone! During her birthday bash this year, after buying a brand new Range Rover, among other things, Sepetu admitted to spending an outlandish amount of money on human hair weaves, causing much shock and dismay. But that didn’t stop this beauty queen from standing tall in the controversy, shrugging off anyone who opposed her lifestyle. It’s also reported that she spends roughly TSh 30,000 on dog food alone.
With a rock star relationship status and even higher glamour goals, Sepetu certainly nails the “movie star” title. After her initial introduction to the public, she launched her acting career starring in movies such as ‘A Point of No Return’, ‘Lerato’, and ‘House Boy’ to name a few. With over thirteen titles under her belt, Sepetu was off and running as one of Tanzania’s biggest stars.
Although she hasn’t starred in a film since late 2012, that hasn’t stopped Wema from soaking in the spotlight of her home country; working on her own personal app, offering beauty tips, makeup tutorials, and just about everything in between.
Whether Wema Sepetu is hitting the front page for her excessive spending, recent boyfriend woes or confronting attacks on her motherhood from artists such as Harmonize, one thing is clear, this former Miss Tanzania has taken center stage long after her walk to fame during the pageant that changed her life.
