New York Fashion Week is often referred to as the “fifth season” of the year due to the excitement you can just feel in the air. Breathing in fashion during NYFW 2017 is fresh and crisp and like every season, shows us something to build our wardrobes upon.
The runways have spoken, and here are five of the hottest looks to remember when creating your personal fall style, according to the NYPost:
- Lady in red from head-to-toe; this shade is strong and versatile.
- Combat boots don’t need a battle; pair them with evening dresses too.
- Sweatshirts are ultra cool; athlesiure is all about the cozy.
- Say yes to baby bags; pint-sized purses are pushing away big totes.
- Studs aren’t hip; go for the shoulder-sweeping chandelier earrings.
What’s refreshingly modern on the runway is the presence of beautiful African-American models showing off their natural hair texture at NYFW 2017. It’s a welcome sight and inspiring to many, from cascades of glam curls to afros with sophisticated appeal, design houses like Tom Ford, Greta Constantine, Harlem’s Fashion Row, Brock Collection and several others all used models with natural hair.
Designer Aisha McShaw debuted her Spring/Summer 2018 ready-to-wear collection at the Prince George Ballroom on Wednesday evening and blew everybody away at NYFW 2017. She told Essence that she wants women to put on her pieces and feel empowered, confident and beautiful: “That’s my line. It’s all about beauty and simplicity, and that’s what I wanted to show tonight.”
Rihanna has also dominated early on at NYFW 2017 with a triple fashion play; the introduction of her first makeup line, Fenty Beauty; the Fenty Puma show; and, the big blowout party of the week. Lovely La La Anthony launched her own collection of denim pieces this week for Lord & Taylor department stores. The La La Anthony Denim Collection is a “size-inclusive line.” It will be available in sizes 0 to 24 with many of the denim items listed at around $78.
