Trump’s certainly been making headlines as he continues to tap those he wants to join his administration. One of the most controversial picks is his choice of Jeff Sessions for Attorney General. So what do we know about Mr. Sessions? Well first, he certainly aligns himself with the conservative platform on immigration and women’s rights — a common theme for just about all of Trump’s picks thus far.
Sessions, a Senator from Alabama, is known for his growing disdain regarding the Obama administration, calling it “shameful,” and stating, “I’m not happy about what’s happened to my Department of Justice.” Sessions is considered one of the country’s most extreme conservative members of the Senate, making many Americans even more nervous about the upcoming change in politics. If confirmed, the Senator will most likely focus on redefining the US stance on immigration, terrorism, crime and even drugs, causing the Democratic party to scramble.
Besides being popular in his home state, Sessions has consistently scored poorly on the HRC’s Congressional Scorecard. Kaitlin Sweeney, the press secretary for the Progressive Change Campaign Committee, released a statement citing, “Senate Democrats should be unified in opposition. Sessions has a history of racist remarks, calling a federal prosecutor ‘boy’ and calling the NAACP ‘un-American’ — and he opposes the Voting Rights Act and has draconian views on immigration. This makes him 100 percent unqualified to lead the Justice Department’s civil rights and right to vote divisions.” She added that he “has consistently opposed reforming and challenging Wall Street, and cannot be trusted to prosecute Wall Street bankers who broke the law.”
She’s not the only one worried about Trump’s pick as the world continues to be shocked and awed by the internal war that’s been going on in the United States over the last couple of weeks post election.
