Do you want to trek Mount Kilimanjaro or train for a new job in Johannesburg? Whatever your goal may be, you can effectively get to the finish line when you follow these seven steps:
1. Believe You Can
Self-belief is powerful. Starting with a strong belief that you can achieve your goal puts you in an excellent position to reach it! When you doubt yourself, you are unlikely to try new things. Challenge your inner negative voice and then just ignore it.
2. Write Down Your Goal
When you write your goal on a piece of paper, you feel more obligated to reach it. Put the paper where you will see it daily to remind you of what you want to achieve.
3. Set Goal Statements
Make realistic declarations of how you will achieve your goal. Then, attach timelines to those statements. Make the deadline a realistic one, while still being challenging enough to push you. For each declaration, attach a result to the action, such as stating you want to earn a certain amount of money within “x” number of years.
4. Commit to the Goal
Many people don’t reach the finish line because they give up. But, it takes hard work to reach a goal. Dedicate yourself to obtaining what you want and be willing to sacrifice. Don’t let anything stand in your way.
5. Make Steps More Manageable
Break down your goal into manageable chunks that are attainable and not overwhelming. You will feel a sense of accomplishment with every step, thus keeping you motivated.
6. Take Time to Visualize
See yourself in your mind, reaching your goal of accepting your graduation document from the University of Cape Town. Then it will be easier to focus on making the mental image a reality.
7. Perform a Weekly Review
Review your goals every week to ensure the steps you are taking will get you to your goal. Also, acknowledge all the work you have done so far on attaining your goal as a way to maintain your motivation.
In a short time you will be on top of the world!
