He hails from the gorgeous Mozambique, a land nestled on the southeast coast of Africa with striking turquoise waters, creamy white beaches and walls of coral. As a young boy, Taibo Bacar was fascinated by fabric and its many textures, the pleasant hum of a sewing machine he often heard from his seamstress mother. It was a wonderful world of beautiful clothes, models, creative expression and exciting events.
Taibo Bacar first thought he would seek a profession in the world of computer technology, and then, his interests took a major U-turn, and it was the best decision he had made in his early adult life. Today, Taibo Bacar is seen as one of the premier designers in all of Africa, and his brand wears his name Taibo Bacar. His label was the first African brand to represent at Milan Fashion Week. It’s not difficult to see why he is at the top of his game. The fashion he designs for women is simply feminine, elegant and flattering to the female silhouette. His Instagram page is a good indicator of what the busy designer is up to at the moment.
Taibo Bacar’s style stands tall for its lovely simplicity, versatility and some of the most impressive patterned fabrics in the fashion world. He showcased his fall/winter line at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Cape Town (MBFWCT) last May and told the media that his cultural background inspired his collection. He looked upon those strong, proud women who came before him and blended their ethnic heritage with the modern women of today like his mother and sisters.
In less than a month, the handsome designer will be launching a website that he calls, “the essence of every woman’s character.” Taibo Bacar has found his calling in life; he feels blessed by God to share his gift of design with the world. There is an amazing hour-long documentary about his rise in the fashion industry and can be seen here on YouTube. It is a story worth watching.
